APC in Ogun Endorses Adeola as Consensus Governorship Candidate for 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has unanimously endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections. This significant endorsement was reached during the party's Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the APC Secretariat in Abeokuta, with key stakeholders in attendance, including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, among other prominent party leaders.

Addressing Political Imbalance in Ogun State

Ogun West Senatorial District, since the creation of the state in 1979, has yet to produce a governor. Adeola's emergence as the party's consensus candidate is widely seen as a strategic move that could end this long-standing political imbalance in the state. Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed strong support for this development, noting his pleasure at the prospect of Ogun West producing the next governor. He urged party leaders and members to replicate the consensus arrangement across all political positions in their respective senatorial districts to reduce internal conflicts and prevent anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Caution and Call for Unity

Abiodun, however, cautioned party members against premature celebration, emphasizing that the endorsement of a candidate does not guarantee electoral victory. "Let us remember that deciding on our candidate does not mean we have won the election. We must go back to our wards and mobilise effectively for victory. What we have done is to reduce internal acrimony and strengthen unity within the party," he stated. He stressed the need for unity, discipline, and strategic preparation, urging members to remain focused on the larger goal of winning the general elections. "Let us leave here united. This is about preparing for a bigger contest ahead. It is better to be prepared than to be underprepared," he added, while congratulating Senator Adeola on his emergence as the party's consensus candidate.

Adeola's Response and Commitment

In his remarks, Senator Adeola called for unity among party members, urging them to work collectively to secure victory for the APC in Ogun State and across the country in 2027. He expressed deep appreciation to Governor Abiodun and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging not to take their support for granted. Adeola assured stakeholders of his commitment to working with all party members to build a better Ogun State if elected, highlighting his dedication to fostering collaboration and progress within the party and the state.

This endorsement marks a pivotal moment in Ogun State's political landscape, as the APC aims to consolidate its position and address regional representation ahead of the 2027 polls. The move is expected to influence party dynamics and electoral strategies in the coming years, with a focus on internal harmony and effective mobilization at the grassroots level.
