PFN Establishes Political Directorate in Rivers to Mobilize Voters for 2027 Elections

The Rivers State Chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has launched a significant political initiative aimed at transforming the state's electoral dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections. This move introduces a newly formed Directorate of Politics and Good Governance, with a primary goal of addressing low voter turnout and ensuring that leadership reflects the genuine will of the people.

Structured Civic Engagement to Combat Low Voter Participation

Speaking at an event in Port Harcourt, PFN Chairman Minaibi Dagogo-Jack emphasized the church's commitment to a more organized civic role. He highlighted a concerning statistic from the last gubernatorial election, where only about 303,000 votes out of approximately 3.5 million registered voters in Rivers State were sufficient to elect a governor, representing less than 10 percent turnout. Dagogo-Jack declared this reality unacceptable and stated the PFN's determination to mobilize church members to participate actively in the electoral process.

Grassroots Mobilization and Peaceful Conduct

The newly inaugurated directorate is structured as a grassroots mobilization engine, with officers appointed from all wards and local council areas across Rivers State. Its mandate includes:

  • Ensuring church members obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
  • Encouraging active participation in elections.
  • Supporting consensus candidates capable of delivering good governance.

Beyond mobilization, Dagogo-Jack stressed that the directorate will focus on promoting peaceful conduct during the electioneering period and working to reduce irregularities that have historically affected elections in the state. This initiative aligns with the PFN's vision for the enthronement of righteous governance, aiming to foster a more transparent and accountable political environment.

Related Political Developments in Other States

In a separate development, the people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone announced plans to purchase the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for Governor Peter Mbah, supporting his bid for a second term. Organizing Committee Chairman Charles Egumgbe noted that this gesture is a way to appreciate Mbah's transformative governance in Enugu State since he assumed office.

Additionally, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri expressed his administration's support for the City Boy Movement (CBM), a youth-focused political advocacy group backing President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027. Diri praised the group's alignment with his administration's goal of nurturing youth leadership, highlighting his appointment of a young Commissioner for Youth as evidence of this commitment.
