Nigeria's Humanitarian Ministry Goes Digital with 1Gov Cloud Launch
Humanitarian Ministry Launches 1Gov Cloud System

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has officially transitioned to the 1Government Cloud Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), marking another achievement under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Nigeria First Policy.

Digital Transformation in Humanitarian Services

During the launch ceremony at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Dr Bernard Doro emphasized that this digital initiative directly supports the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda. The minister highlighted that the move to digital platforms will significantly reduce operational inefficiencies while making public institutions more responsive to citizens' needs.

"This innovation aligns squarely with the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the administration's vision to digitalise government processes, reduce inefficiencies and make public institutions more responsive to citizens' needs," Dr Doro stated.

Milestone for Paperless Operations

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Didi Esther Walson-Jack, described the ministry's transition to paperless operations as a major milestone. She particularly noted the significance of this development for an organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable populations across Nigeria.

"This ministry, with its vital mission of supporting the vulnerable, is now embracing paperless processes, and I say this is a milestone," Walson-Jack declared during her remarks.

She explained that the 1Gov ECMS platform represents a fundamental shift in ministerial operations, enabling automated workflows, reducing paper dependency, and facilitating real-time collaboration among government agencies.

Data Sovereignty and December 2025 Target

Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director and CEO of Galaxy Backbone Limited, reaffirmed his agency's role as the Federal Government's primary digital infrastructure provider. He emphasized that the 1Government Cloud ensures all confidential, sovereign, and sensitive data remains within Nigeria's borders and under Nigerian legal jurisdiction.

Adeyanju expressed confidence that with continued commitment across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the Federal Government's target of achieving a completely paperless civil service by December 31, 2025, remains attainable.

During the technical presentation, Mr Wumi Oghoetuoma, Programme Director for GBB 1Government Cloud, welcomed the Humanitarian Ministry to the platform, noting that their onboarding demonstrates readiness to adopt modern, secure, and efficient digital tools that will enhance workflow automation and improve data security.

The Head of Civil Service also revealed that 19 ministries already operating on the 1Gov ECMS platform will no longer accept paper-based correspondence, urging the media to inform the Nigerian public about this significant transition in government operations.
