The Federal Government has appealed to Nigerians to remain calm and not panic in response to recent alarming remarks made by former United States President, Donald Trump.
Government's Reassurance on Diplomacy and Security
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this crucial appeal on Monday, November 10, 2025, during a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse, Jigawa State. The minister's statement comes as a direct response to Trump's reported threat of invading Nigeria over unverified claims of a Christian genocide.
Idris firmly assured citizens that there is absolutely no cause for alarm, emphasizing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu possesses the necessary capability and experience to manage any potential diplomatic tensions that might emerge from this situation. He stressed that the President is fully equipped to maintain Nigeria's vital international relationships and protect the nation's sovereignty.
Tinubu's Leadership and International Stance
"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has all it takes to secure Nigeria from destabilising elements, as well as mend any cracks in our nation's relationship with our international friends and partners," the Minister declared confidently. "As such, Nigerians should please remain calm."
The Minister, who was in Jigawa to attend the North-West 2025 Youth Pally and the Presentation of the Achievements of President Tinubu after Two Years in Office, reiterated the administration's unwavering commitment to ensuring peace, unity, and continued positive engagement with global partners.
Idris further emphasized that despite the international concerns sparked by Trump's statement, the Tinubu administration remains steadfastly focused on strengthening Nigeria's democratic institutions and promoting constructive international cooperation that benefits all Nigerians.
Enhanced Security Measures in FCT
In a related development, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has significantly intensified its proactive crime prevention efforts through special security patrol operations around churches and border communities.
This security enhancement aligns with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, and likely follows President Tinubu's earlier order to security chiefs to ensure the safety of all Nigerians, particularly in light of the serious accusations made by the former US President.
According to a statement signed by Josephine Adeh, the Command's Public Relations Officer, the extensive patrol conducted on November 9, 2025 was led by operatives of the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit working in close collaboration with personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups.
The comprehensive security operation covered strategic forested and border areas linking:
- Bwari to Kaduna State
- Bwari to Niger State
- Gwagwalada to Niger State
Running from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., this security exercise aimed to strengthen public confidence, effectively deter criminal activities, and ensure that worshippers can attend religious services without fear of harassment or attack.
During the patrol, security personnel actively engaged with church leaders in the affected communities, reassuring them of the Command's unwavering commitment to their safety. They also provided crucial advice on proactive security measures, including limiting late-night activities, maintaining regular contact with security agencies, and promptly reporting any suspicious persons or movements.
