Senator Gbenga Daniel Highlights Unity as Critical Factor for Ijebu State Creation
Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Ogun State and current senator representing Ogun East, has issued a significant warning regarding the proposed creation of Ijebu State. During the BATOGD Movement Tour in Odogbolu Local Government Area, Daniel emphasized that the establishment of this new state would only be feasible if the nine local governments of the old Ijebu Province demonstrate unity of purpose.

As the sponsor of the bill for Ijebu State, Senator Daniel revealed that he has undertaken extensive behind-the-scenes efforts to advance this project. He explained that the parameters and requirements for state creation are enormous and rigorous, making unity among the people essential for overcoming these challenges. Daniel stated, "In the current circumstances facing Ijebuland, the last real hope for accelerated and sustainable development lies in the prospect of creating a new State from the old Ijebu Province."
He further noted that consensus is being reached on the name and capital of the proposed state, which would be called Ijebu-Remo State. Daniel stressed that the full complement of nine local government councils is necessary for success, and anything short of this could jeopardize the initiative.
Grassroots Engagement and Empowerment Initiatives
The tour in Odogbolu Local Government Area, which attracted stakeholders from all wards, featured an empowerment program where residents received materials such as sewing machines, fertilizer, motorcycles, freezers, and cash. This event showcased Daniel's commitment to grassroots development and community support.
Impressed by his performance, the gathering endorsed Daniel for a second term as senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District. They also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu. The motion for endorsement was moved by Baleof Erebe and Dr. Abayomi Lawal, with Hon. John Obafemi, former Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria in Ogun State, seconding it. The motion was unanimously adopted through a voice vote.
