A Canada-based political analyst, Olufemi Adegbulugbe, has congratulated Senator Orji Uzor Kalu following his reported victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Abia North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adegbulugbe, who resides in Alberta, Canada, stated that the outcome of the primary reflected what he described as Kalu's enduring political influence and widespread support within the constituency. According to him, Kalu secured 65,651 votes, representing 96.7 percent of the votes cast across the constituency's 57 wards covering Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia, and Umunneochi local government areas.
The analyst described the result as a strong indication of the former Abia governor's continued acceptance among APC members in the district. “The APC community of Abia North have taken a small step by their vote of confidence in Senator Kalu, but this small step will lead to a giant leap for the people of Abia State, the South-east region and Nigeria in general,” he said.
Adegbulugbe stated that although he is neither from Abia State nor a member of the APC, he considered the outcome significant because decisions taken by senators affect Nigerians beyond their constituencies. “A senator not only represents his senatorial district but also represents all Nigerians, because the decisions made by senators in the upper legislative assembly affect every Nigerian,” he said.
He also commended Professor Philip Nto for participating in the primary process, describing his involvement as a contribution to democratic engagement within the party. Political observers interpreted the remarks as a call for unity within the APC in Abia North following the conclusion of the primary contest ahead of the main election cycle.
Adegbulugbe further described Kalu as a “nationalist, borderless Nigerian, nation builder and political economist,” expressing confidence that his continued presence in the Senate would benefit both the South-East region and the country at large. Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, has represented Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate since 2019 and previously served as Chief Whip of the Senate during the 9th National Assembly. His emergence as APC candidate once again positions him for another electoral contest in a district widely regarded as one of the party's most politically strategic constituencies in Abia State.
