The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has urged its local government coordinators to start mobilising citizens for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise scheduled to begin on Monday, May 11, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Party Chairman's Call to Action
Chijioke Chukwu, the state APC chairman, made the call in a statement on Thursday, May 7. He emphasised that the exercise is fundamental to democratic principles and urged party members to actively encourage citizen participation as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Chukwu stated: "Following the recent announcement by INEC on the resumption of the final phase of the CVR exercise from Monday, 11th May to Friday, 10th July 2026, I write to call for a renewed and strategic mobilisation effort across all our Local Government Areas."
Foundational Democratic Exercise
He described the registration as not merely administrative but foundational to democratic participation and a way for the people to express confidence in leadership. He highlighted the party's achievements under the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the representation of APC members in the National and State Assemblies.
"It is therefore essential that more citizens are given the opportunity to participate in the process that validates and sustains this progress," Chukwu added.
Strategic Grassroots Engagement
The chairman called for purposeful engagement, urging coordinators to take the party's message beyond usual spaces into communities, markets, youth gatherings, and professional groups. He stressed that eligible citizens must not only register but understand the importance of their participation.
"The strength of any democratic mandate is rooted in numbers, awareness, and belief," he said.
Coordinators were instructed to intensify grassroots mobilisation, work closely with ward structures, and ensure visible coordination and consistent messaging. They were also encouraged to assist citizens who need to transfer their registration, correct details, or replace their PVCs.
Unity and Democratic Strength
Chukwu concluded: "Let us approach this exercise with unity, clarity of purpose, and the understanding that broad participation strengthens not just our party but the democratic process itself. When more people are involved, the impact of governance becomes more visible, and the collective voice of the people becomes stronger."
