The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State has witnessed a significant push for unity as stakeholders rally behind consensus candidates for the forthcoming general elections. During an affirmation exercise in Kaita Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Land and Survey, Dr. Faisal Kaita, emphasized the critical need for cohesion among party members to secure a strong performance in the 2027 polls.
Dr. Kaita warned that disunity could severely undermine the party's electoral prospects. "Let me warn that we can only succeed if there is unity within the party; we must unite and work for the success of the party now and during the 2027 election," he stated. He described the consensus arrangement as a strategic move to foster internal harmony and minimize post-primary conflicts.
According to Dr. Kaita, while four aspirants contested the House of Representatives ticket and two others vied for the senatorial ticket, all 34 House of Assembly tickets were resolved through consensus agreements. He urged aspirants who lost in the process to accept the outcome gracefully and support the party's flagbearers, cautioning against defecting to opposition parties.
He further encouraged party members to actively promote the APC's manifesto across the state and engage with voters ahead of the elections. "We need to go around, meet the people, apologize to them and seek their votes," he added.
The Chairman of Kaita Local Government, Bello Yandaki, who also heads the Consensus Committee, lauded the arrangement as the best approach for ensuring unity and smooth candidate selection. Yandaki announced that the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Sirajo Abdu Kwaskwaro, was unanimously endorsed as the APC candidate for the Kaita State Constituency seat.
The APC in Katsina State conducted affirmation exercises for all 34 House of Assembly candidates across the 34 local government areas. The process was supervised by party officials, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies to ensure transparency and order.
Governor Dikko Radda, who attended the exercise in Charanchi Local Government Area, his hometown, commended party members for what he described as a peaceful and orderly process. He expressed optimism that the consensus approach would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
