Benue APC Stakeholders Warn Gov. Alia Over 2027 Poll

A coalition of All Progressives Congress stakeholders from Benue South Senatorial District has issued a strong warning to Governor Hyacinth Alia, urging immediate intervention in what they describe as unacceptable interference in political appointments within Zone C.

Stakeholders Raise Alarm Over Political Exclusion

The group, comprising prominent APC members from the zone, has called on Governor Alia to ensure that State APC Chairman Dr. Benjamin Omale and Och'Doma His Royal Highness John Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji engage in proper consultations with all stakeholders before making decisions affecting the senatorial district.

In a press release dated November 15, 2025, the coalition warned that continued sidelining of critical stakeholders could lead to the party losing the 2027 governorship election. They emphasized that such actions risk deepening internal divisions and weakening the party's grassroots support base.

Specific Grievances and Demands

The stakeholders accused Dr. Omale and the Och'Doma of what they termed unacceptable interference in the selection of party and government appointees across Benue South. According to the group, this development has created significant chaos within APC structures in several local government areas.

The coalition outlined six specific demands, including:

  • Mandatory consultation with all stakeholders before appointments
  • Immediate cessation of intimidation against local government chairmen
  • Respect for existing zoning arrangements in the zone
  • Prevention of imposed party executives at forthcoming congresses

The statement, signed by Dr. Mathew Achigili (Chairman), Simon Adanu (Secretary), and Grace Inalegwu (Woman Leader), particularly highlighted the situation in Apa-Agatu, Ohimini, Otukpo, and Ogbadibo local government areas, where they claim the party is in complete disarray.

Palace Denies Allegations

Meanwhile, the Palace of the Och'Doma of Idoma Land has strongly denied allegations of political interference. Palace Secretary Adegbe Uloko described the claims as clandestine behaviour aimed at tarnishing the monarch's reputation.

In an interview with reporters, Uloko stated that the paramount ruler maintains strict neutrality in political matters and has never attempted to influence political developments in any local government area. He explained that the recent move of a House of Representatives member to APC was a personal decision unrelated to the Och'Doma.

The stakeholders have vowed not to leave the APC but warned they would work against the re-election prospects of any governor or candidate who fails to address their concerns. They emphasized their commitment to remain within the party while actively opposing what they perceive as undemocratic practices.
