Former Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, along with 36 other individuals, emerged as candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections on Friday. The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Ebiowei Olomu, who presented the results of the party's primary elections.
Senatorial Candidates Emerge
According to Olomu, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen secured the Edo South Senatorial District ticket through consensus after garnering 23,174 votes. Mrs. Herbarta Inemezele Okonufua also emerged as a consensus candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District, polling 4,898 votes. For Edo North, Prince Musa Jerry Braimo emerged victorious with 14,992 votes.
House of Representatives Candidates
Candidates for the nine House of Representatives positions were also selected via consensus. In Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, Ekundayo Ukponwan emerged with 5,595 votes. Louis Ejedeavwe Ebodaghe secured the ticket for Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency with 3,531 votes. Ighalo Paulson Odion won in Esan North-East/Esan South-East with 1,339 votes, while Bright Egharevba emerged in Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency with 5,114 votes.
In Etsako Federal Constituency, Braimah Yakubu polled 10,228 votes to become the ADC candidate. Shedrach Idugbai emerged in Owan Federal Constituency with 961 votes. Osazemen Ehigie Uzamere secured the Ovia Federal Constituency ticket with 1,926 votes. Ateri Nelson Kayode emerged for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency with 3,312 votes, and Osamwonyi Williams Irowa won in Oredo Federal Constituency with 2,010 votes.
ADC Aims for Government Takeover
The Committee Chairman emphasized that the ADC is poised to take over government in 2027. He decried the suffering of Nigerians due to insecurity and high inflation, among other challenges. Olomu urged members of the opposition party to remain united to achieve their objectives. He also called on anyone aggrieved by the primary elections to approach the ADC Primary Election Appeal Committee.
Olomu confirmed that three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives candidates, and 24 Edo State House of Assembly candidates emerged from the primaries. He stated, "Our aim is to take over government in 2027, as we all can see the suffering Nigerians are going through, the insecurity, the high cost of living. Please, let us work together to be able to achieve our objectives. We appeal to anybody aggrieved by the conduct of the primary election to appeal to the committee set up by the national."
