Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will face no significant challenge in the 2027 presidential election. Jibrin argued that the opposition has weakened itself by splintering into multiple parties rather than forming a united front against the incumbent.
Jibrin: Tinubu Faces No Real Opposition
In an interview on Wednesday, June 3, on Arise Television's Prime Time program, Jibrin, a former ally of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, stated that the 2027 race would not be as difficult for Tinubu as many Nigerians anticipate. He asserted that Tinubu's political acumen and strategic maneuvering have effectively neutralized any potential threat from the opposition, even if they were to unite.
According to Jibrin, Tinubu is so formidable that even a unified opposition would be unable to defeat him. He emphasized that the opposition's division into factions, including those led by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, only further diminishes their chances. Jibrin criticized the opposition for failing to learn from Tinubu's strategy, which successfully consolidated the opposition into a single force in 2015 to achieve a unity government.
When asked about the threat posed by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate in Kano State, Jibrin dismissed any serious challenge, stating that regardless of how the opposition aligns, they have already lost. He reiterated that even if the opposition were united, Tinubu would still emerge victorious.
Previous Predictions on 2027 Election
Earlier reports indicated that former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose also predicted that the division between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would favor Tinubu's re-election. Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noted that the opposition's failure to unite under a single party has weakened their ability to defeat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Jibrin's comments reflect a growing confidence among Tinubu's supporters that the president's political strategy and the opposition's fragmentation will ensure his re-election. As the 2027 election approaches, the political landscape continues to evolve, with key figures like Jibrin and Fayose weighing in on the likely outcome.
