The Kwankwasiyya Movement has expressed dismay over what it describes as targeted attacks and misleading narratives aimed at discrediting Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, following his political engagement with fellow former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a statement, the movement noted that critics, particularly from segments of the Northern political establishment, are unsettled by the prospect of a broad-based political understanding that could bridge the long-standing regional divide in opposition politics.
According to the movement, Kwankwaso commands one of the most disciplined and organic grassroots political structures in Northern Nigeria, especially in Kano and the Northwest, while Obi enjoys massive support among youths, urban voters, and large parts of Southern Nigeria. The potential collaboration introduces a new political equation that transcends ethnicity, religion, and regional sentiment, which explains the panic in certain quarters.
“Unfortunately, rather than objectively analyzing the implications of such national realignment, some commentators have chosen to launch targeted attacks against Senator Kwankwaso, portraying him unfairly as ambitious or disruptive, while describing similar political engagements by others as strategic and patriotic,” the movement said.
The group emphasized that both leaders possess proven electoral strength, independent political structures, and massive youth appeal, which could fundamentally reshape Nigeria’s democratic landscape. “Those attempting to dismiss this reality are not engaging in analysis; they are expressing political fear,” it added.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement further stated that Kwankwaso’s political relevance is rooted in years of service, grassroots connection, and the trust of millions of Nigerians, especially youth and lower-income populations, rather than media hype or access to federal power.
The movement rejected attempts to reduce a potentially historic national alignment to petty elite propaganda and personality attacks. It urged commentators and stakeholders to embrace fairness, maturity, and national interest, noting that democracy thrives through coalition-building, inclusion, and healthy competition.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement remains confident, focused, and fully committed to the democratic future of Nigeria. We believe the Nigerian people deserve a political environment built on unity, mutual respect, and constructive national engagement,” the statement concluded.
