NDC Fastest-Rising Opposition Force in Nigeria, Says Dickson
NDC Fastest-Rising Opposition Force in Nigeria: Dickson

National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has declared that the party is rapidly emerging as Nigeria's strongest opposition movement, unveiling ambitious plans to reform internal party politics through digital primaries, strategic consensus arrangements, and a nationwide structure designed to outlive individual ambitions.

Dickson's Declaration

Speaking at a high-level dinner for governorship and National Assembly aspirants, Dickson said the party's rapid rise within a few months has surprised critics who initially dismissed the NDC as politically insignificant. According to him, the party has evolved into what he described as the most cohesive opposition platform in the country, driven by sacrifice, loyalty, and a shared vision for national rebirth.

The event was attended by the party's presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, while Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was absent due to ongoing political consultations in Kano ahead of the primaries.

Warning Against Opportunism

Dickson warned aspirants seeking party tickets that the NDC would not serve as a platform for opportunistic and transactional politics. He said the party is being deliberately built as a long-term ideological institution capable of competing with established political movements globally.

Digital Primary Revolution

In one of the major announcements of the evening, Dickson revealed that the NDC is preparing to replace its traditional manual primary system with a technology-driven electronic voting process for future internal elections. He said plans are underway to deploy modern digital systems to reduce manipulation, improve transparency, and restore credibility to party primaries.

This will be the last largely manual primary we conduct, Dickson declared, signalling what could become one of the most significant internal reforms by any opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Selection Committee and Consensus

The former Bayelsa State governor also disclosed that the party has set up a powerful selection committee to review screening reports, consult stakeholders nationwide, and determine candidates based not only on popularity but also on competence, electability, and constituency dynamics. He urged aspirants to embrace consensus arrangements where necessary to avoid internal conflicts that could weaken the party ahead of the general elections.

Reassurance for Aspirants

Dickson also sought to reassure aspirants who may not secure tickets, saying the party would not abandon loyal members after the primaries. According to him, the NDC is compiling a comprehensive database of aspirants, donors, and supporters who will be integrated into its presidential campaign structure and future leadership framework.

He commended the screening committee led by former governor and ex-minister, Sam Egwu, praising its members for what he described as a rigorous and credible screening process.

Growing Ambitions

With opposition realignments intensifying nationwide, Dickson's remarks are expected to further fuel speculation about the NDC's growing ambitions to reshape Nigeria's political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
