Oyo Assembly Majority Leader Quits PDP

The Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The lawmaker, who represents Ogbomoso South constituency, announced his decision on Friday in a statement he signed in Ibadan, the state capital.

Adedoyin, a two-term legislator, stated that he would be joining the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). With his exit, the total number of lawmakers in the state who have resigned from the PDP now stands at four.

In his statement, Adedoyin criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the center for contributing to the instability within the opposition party. He explained that his departure from the PDP was prompted by the ongoing leadership crisis facing the party.

Three PDP lawmakers had resigned from the party on Thursday at the House of Assembly, which comprises 28 members, including four from the APC. They cited the same reason for their decision.

One of the lawmakers who previously resigned, Mrs Bisi Oluranti, representing Ogbomoso North, disclosed that the persistent internal conflict within the PDP has continued to undermine the party's stability, leading to her decision to leave.

Adedoyin noted that his decision to leave the PDP followed deep reflection and consultations, rooted in his belief in the importance of a credible opposition.
