Sule Lamido Denies Withdrawing PDP Convention Lawsuit, Court Halts Ibadan Event
Sule Lamido Denies Withdrawing PDP Lawsuit, Court Stops Convention

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has firmly denied circulating reports claiming he withdrew his lawsuit against the Peoples Democratic Party concerning its national convention. The political stalwart described the information as completely false and misleading.

False Reports Spark Confusion

Lamido addressed the situation through his social media channels on Friday evening, revealing he had received numerous concerned calls from PDP members across Nigeria. The false reports had been widely disseminated, particularly in Ibadan where the party's convention was scheduled to take place.

The former governor explicitly stated: "The story/statement attributed to me below is false. I urge members to note that I have not withdrawn the lawsuit against the party."

Court Ruling and Convention Implications

The Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a significant judgment affirming Lamido's right to contest for the PDP National Chairmanship position. The court issued a decisive order temporarily halting the Ibadan convention planned for November 15-16, 2025.

Justice Peter Lifu explained the reasoning behind restraining the PDP from proceeding with its convention during his ruling on Tuesday, November 11. The court mandated that the party must comply with the court ruling before any convention activities could proceed.

Additionally, the court restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from supervising or recognizing any outcomes from the convention. Certified copies of this order were formally delivered to both the PDP and INEC officials.

Clarifying Misinformation

Lamido further clarified that contrary to rumors spreading on social media, he never instructed his lawyer to withdraw the lawsuit. He also denied having any meeting with Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, as falsely claimed in the circulating misinformation.

The political veteran emphasized that the court's decision protects his legitimate right to pursue the party's national chairman position through proper legal channels. The temporary halt of the convention represents a significant development in the ongoing internal dynamics within Nigeria's main opposition party.

This legal development comes amid growing tensions within the PDP, with various factions expressing differing opinions about the timing and organization of the national convention. The court's intervention ensures that due process is followed in determining the party's leadership structure.
