Wike's Spokesman Dismisses PDP Expulsion as Political Theater
A fresh political confrontation has erupted within Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, openly mocked party leaders who announced the expulsion of his boss and other pro-Wike figures.
The verbal attack came on Saturday, November 15, 2025, when Olayinka responded to the PDP's decision with characteristic sharpness, describing the gathering in Ibadan where the expulsion was announced as nothing more than premature December celebrations disguised as political business.
"Dirty December in November": Olayinka's Scathing Response
In a brief interview with The Guardian, Olayinka delivered his now-viral critique of the PDP leadership. "When people decide to start their own dirty December in November, one can't help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths," he stated, suggesting the meeting lacked seriousness and legitimacy.
Olayinka accused the party leaders of transforming what should have been a crucial political engagement into a social gathering. "They gathered in Ibadan to do social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated. They are free to say anything," he added, implying that the expulsion announcements were products of excitement rather than proper party procedure.
Deepening PDP Crisis and Legitimacy Questions
The spokesperson's remarks highlight the escalating internal hostilities within the PDP, where factions loyal to Wike and those supporting acting National Chairman Umar Damagum continue to exchange accusations. The conflict stems from controversies surrounding:
- The party's convention proceedings
- Recent disciplinary actions
- Board of Trustees recommendations
Olayinka maintained that his boss remains unfazed by the expulsion pronouncements, insisting that no credible authority within the PDP could legitimately sanction Wike or his allies. Others targeted alongside Wike include:
- Senator Samuel Anyanwu
- Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN)
- Former Governor Ayo Fayose
- Hon. Austin Nwachukwu
Meanwhile, serious concerns have emerged about the legitimacy of the PDP National Convention in Ibadan due to the absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The electoral body's non-participation followed court rulings issued to prevent the convention from taking place.
In a terse statement, the PDP defended its landmark move, stating it aims to restore unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections. "The decision, which was promptly ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, underscores the party's commitment to eradicating internal divisions and anti-party conduct that have plagued its progress," the party declared.
As the crisis intensifies, political observers note that the party's internal rifts, now amplified by open mockery and counter-sanctions, reveal the broader struggle for control ahead of future electoral cycles in Nigeria.
