ADC Slams Tinubu, Says His Battle is Against Suffering Nigerians
ADC Slams Tinubu Over Comments on Opposition and Suffering

ADC Condemns Tinubu's Remarks, Accuses Him of Battling Suffering Nigerians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a sharp rebuke to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting that his political confrontations are directly aimed at the suffering populace of Nigeria. The party contends that Tinubu's leadership failures have positioned him for a significant defeat in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Unpresidential Comments Amid National Crisis

In a statement released by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC labeled Tinubu's recent comments as not only unpresidential but also negligent in addressing the severe hardships millions of Nigerians endure under his administration. This response came after the President dismissed opposition fears, mocking their convention as being held on the streets.

The ADC emphasized that Tinubu's focus on political sparring, particularly in reactions to figures like Atiku Abubakar, reveals a leader out of touch with reality. As citizens grapple with deepening poverty, rampant insecurity from insurgents and kidnappers, and a historic cost-of-living crisis, the party argues the President should prioritize governance over rhetoric.

Disconnect from Hardship and Insecurity

The ADC statement highlighted: "What Nigerians witnessed was not the confidence of a leader in control. It was the anxiety of a President increasingly disconnected from the reality of hardship, insecurity, and frustration facing millions of citizens."

At a time when families struggle with food inflation, rising debt burdens, and collapsing purchasing power, Tinubu chose to ridicule the opposition instead of offering solutions. Concurrently, reports of children being abducted from examination centers underscored the pervasive insecurity infiltrating daily life, while the government appears distracted.

Rejection of False Narratives and Democratic Erosion

The ADC also refuted claims about their national convention being held on the street, suggesting Tinubu was misinformed by disruptive agents. The party noted that even if opposition groups were forced to gather in unconventional venues, it would be understandable given the significant shrinkage of democratic space under this administration.

No previous government, the ADC asserted, has denied political parties fair access to public venues like Eagle Square, a national civic ground meant for all Nigerians, not just the ruling party. This erosion of democratic norms, coupled with Tinubu's dual role as interpreter of the law and political referee, undermines the separation of powers and weakens vital institutions.

Hypocrisy and Electoral Calculations

Furthermore, the ADC criticized Tinubu's recent attempts to align with supporters of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, calling it hypocritical. After years of distancing himself and blaming Buhari for governance failures, this sudden U-turn appears driven by electoral motives ahead of 2027, but the party insists it is too late to regain public trust.

The ADC concluded that Tinubu should fear the determined will of the people, who have largely rejected his policies for ruining lives and livelihoods, rather than mocking the opposition. This stance reinforces the party's commitment to holding the administration accountable as Nigeria navigates these challenging times.
