The Baba Adinni of Lagos, Alhaji Bashorun Sikiru Alabi-Macfoy, has issued a powerful call for unity among Muslims and expressed unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration and his anticipated re-election bid. He made these declarations at the significant 'Raabitah Eko 2025' conference, which was organized by the League of Imams and Alfas in Yoruba Land.
A Strategic Call for Unity and Political Action
Addressing the gathering on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Alhaji Alabi-Macfoy emphasized the critical timing of the conference's theme, which focuses on strengthening peaceful coexistence among leaders. He stated that a successful outcome from the three-day event would empower Muslims to speak with one voice and act in unison.
He directly linked this unity to political objectives, asserting that a cohesive Muslim community would not only improve the standing of Islam in Lagos and Nigeria but would also "better facilitate the re-election of our amiable, hardworking, focused, peace-loving leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu." The religious leader expressed a clear vision for President Tinubu to remain in office until 2031, God willing.
Three-Point Plan for the 2027 General Elections
In a move that framed religious duty alongside civic action, the influential Lagos Muslim leader presented a clear strategic outline for the upcoming 2027 general elections. He charged the Muslim Ummah with three key responsibilities:
- Demonstrate love and obedience to President Tinubu through personal example.
- Promote awareness among other religious and ethnic groups, spreading the message that President Tinubu is currently the best leader for all Nigerians.
- Encourage every eligible Nigerian to obtain their Permanent Voter Card (PVC), safeguard it, and use it to vote overwhelmingly for the President's re-election in 2027.
To underscore the theological basis for this civic engagement, Alhaji Alabi-Macfoy referenced Qur'an 4:59, which instructs believers to obey Allah, the Messenger, and those in authority.
Defending the Administration and Dismissing Divisive Narratives
The Baba Adinni offered a robust defense of President Tinubu's tenure, acknowledging the tough decisions made since taking office. He argued these steps were necessary for realizing long-term national visions, with positive impacts already becoming visible. "He came well prepared, and he is steadily but surely moving the nation in the right direction. He has done the necessary things that previous leaders were afraid or unwilling to do," he stated.
Shifting to national security, Alhaji Alabi-Macfoy urged Nigerians to disregard fears of foreign invasion and firmly reject narratives framing the country's challenges as a religious war between Christians and Muslims. He described such characterizations of the insurgency, kidnapping, and banditry as "dubious, divisive, devious, and dangerously wrong."
He highlighted the deep familial ties across faiths in Lagos and Yorubaland, noting that even President Tinubu has Christian family members. He commended the President for being on top of the security situation and for doing more than any predecessor to tackle violent crimes.
In his concluding remarks, the Baba Adinni called on the Muslim community to organize itself internally, aiming to foster a more vibrant Islam that will actively support keeping President Tinubu in leadership.
