Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has applauded the dedication of Kano residents to the survival of democracy in Nigeria. Speaking on the occasion of Democracy Day, the Governor described the celebration as a testament to citizens' resilience to democratic governance and their enduring commitment to freedom, justice, and development in the country.
Reflection on Democratic Journey
In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf said Democracy Day offers an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and renew commitment to the ideals of accountability, transparency, and service to the people.
Achievements Over Three Years
The Governor noted that over the last three years, his administration has remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy through policies and programmes designed to improve the living conditions of the people of Kano State. He highlighted the declaration of a State of Emergency in Education, which has resulted in significant investments in school infrastructure, recruitment of qualified teachers, provision of teaching and learning materials, payment of examination fees, and sponsorship of students for higher education within and outside the country.
According to the Governor, the administration has also recorded notable achievements in the health sector through the renovation and upgrading of health facilities, recruitment of healthcare personnel, and expansion of access to quality healthcare services.
Infrastructure and Economic Growth
Governor Yusuf further highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state, improvements in water supply, support for agricultural development, youth and women empowerment programmes, and social intervention initiatives targeted at vulnerable members of society. He stated that the government has continued to create opportunities for economic growth through policies that support businesses, encourage investments, and promote job creation.
Call for Peace and Unity
The Governor expressed appreciation to the people of Kano State for their support, cooperation, and prayers, assuring them that his administration remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promises and responding to the needs and aspirations of the people. He called on residents to continue promoting peace, unity, tolerance, and respect for democratic institutions, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in a peaceful and stable environment.
