In a significant political declaration, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has publicly committed to working for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
A Decision for the Good of Rivers State
Governor Fubara made this promise on Monday, December 22, 2025, during the official inauguration of the Permanent Secretaries' Quarters located in the Elimgbu area of Port Harcourt. Addressing the gathering, which included members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, the governor stated that his administration's decision was final and made for the benefit of the state.
"We have made a decision. Our decision is for the good of Rivers State," Fubara declared. He explained that the move was a direct response to the federal protection his government received from President Tinubu, framing the upcoming electoral support as a reciprocal "thank-you gesture".
Capacity to Deliver Votes Across 23 LGAs
Fubara expressed strong confidence in his political machinery's ability to deliver results. He asserted that his administration possesses "the capacity and all it takes" to return President Tinubu to Aso Rock Villa. To bolster this claim, the governor provided a fresh update, revealing that 70% support for Tinubu's re-election bid has already been secured across all 23 local government areas of Rivers State.
This detailed assurance was part of the discussions he shared from his recent meeting with the APC's National Working Committee, signaling a coordinated effort between the state and the national party structure.
Context of Federal Engagement in Rivers
The governor's pledge comes amidst continued engagement between the Rivers State government and the federal administration. Recall that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, recently led a high-powered presidential delegation to the South-South state.
That delegation, which included the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, alongside top officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), was tasked with delivering a special message from President Tinubu to Governor Fubara. This visit underscores the ongoing political dialogue between the two leaders.
Governor Fubara's unequivocal declaration solidifies a major political alignment ahead of the 2027 polls, potentially significantly altering the electoral calculus in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. It marks a pivotal moment in the state's political trajectory, binding its immediate future to the national agenda of the ruling APC.
