The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been plunged into mourning following the recent passing of its former leader, Brigadier General Soyemi Ayodele Sofoluwe (Rtd.). The retired army officer served as the scheme's seventh Director-General and is remembered for his pivotal role in its development.

A Condolence Visit in Lagos

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the current NYSC Director-General, led a delegation on a condolence visit to the late General's family in Lagos. During the visit, held in late December 2025, Nafiu expressed profound sadness over the loss. He highlighted the remarkable contributions made by Sofoluwe to the growth and strengthening of the NYSC during his tenure as its Chief Executive.

The incumbent DG described the death as a great loss, not only to the immediate family but also to the entire NYSC community and the nation at large. He offered prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased and for divine comfort for the bereaved family.

Assurance of Support and a Lasting Legacy
