In a major political development, two prominent Nigerian political figures, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, are set to formally exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The move, scheduled for Sunday, April 3, 2026, is seen as a strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Formal Declaration in Abuja
According to an invitation sent to journalists via the NDC Media WhatsApp Group, the formal declaration will take place at 2:00 pm in Abuja. The event will be hosted by the National Leader of the NDC and former Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, alongside the National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
A Growing Political Wave
Party leaders have described the development as a growing wave of confidence in the NDC across the nation. The addition of Obi and Kwankwaso, both of whom have significant political followings, is expected to strengthen the party's position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, and Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, have been key figures in Nigerian politics. Their decision to join the NDC signals a potential shift in the political landscape as parties realign for the upcoming presidential race.
More details are expected to emerge following the formal declaration.
