Ogun Governor Urges Clerics to Pray for Peace Before 2027 Election

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on religious leaders to sustain their fervent prayers for the peace, unity, and stability of the country before, during, and after the 2027 general elections. He also urged Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu and encouraged parents to be more proactive in fulfilling their responsibilities toward their children as the nation marked this year's Children's Day Celebration.

Governor's Message During Eid Prayers

The governor spoke on Wednesday while delivering a message to Muslim faithful in the state after the observance of two rakat Eid prayers at the Lantoro praying ground in Abeokuta. Represented by Senator Shuaibu Afolabi, who represents Ogun Central in the National Assembly, Abiodun emphasized that the state has enjoyed remarkable peace and development over the past seven years through divine support and the prayers of religious leaders.

He stated, "The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun CON, facilitated with the Muslim community and citizens of Ogun state in general. He has asked me to make a statement containing three main elements. First, his administration will be seven years in office in about two days from now, meaning he has one year left. He has asked me to ask the clerics to pray for him to ensure that the success he has recorded in the last seven years will also be enjoyed in the last one year. In these years, the state has been peaceful and prosperous under his reign, but all this could not have happened except with the prayers of the clerics and the benevolence of the Almighty, and he has asked me to tell them to still pray for him."

Call for Prayers for President Tinubu and Peaceful Elections

"The second part is that you should pray for our President, Bola Tinubu, so he can have a successful re-election, and for all those vying for one position or another in Ogun state, that the election will be peaceful and the country will not go into war or be divided; rather, it will be united before, during, and after the election. Lastly, today is also Children's Day... Only a child that is well brought up can be a benefit to the family and to the country. All our youths and citizens of Ogun state, please ensure that the new generation we are building will be built on godliness and virtues," the governor added.

Administration's Commitment to Democracy Dividends

The governor reiterated his administration's determination to deliver the dividends of democracy across the three senatorial districts of the state before the expiration of his tenure in office. In a sermon, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheikh Sa'adallah Bamigbola, urged Muslims to continue to uphold the virtues of peace, tolerance, unity, and selflessness, noting that these values are essential for the progress and peaceful coexistence of society.
