Reno Omokri Challenges Peter Obi on Real-Time Election Results Demand
Ambassador designate Reno Omokri has launched a sharp critique against politician Peter Obi and other advocates calling for real-time transmission of election results in Nigeria. In a widely circulated social media video, Omokri pointedly questioned the feasibility of such demands, drawing a comparison to the performance of a bank associated with Obi.
Banking Issues Highlighted in Argument
Omokri urged citizens to fact-check his claims, stating that last year, a bank owned by Peter Obi faced tens of thousands of customer complaints regarding real-time service failures. These issues included:
- Customers unable to access the bank's app in real time.
- Money transfers not reaching destination banks promptly.
- Delays in reversals to bank accounts.
- Inaccessibility of USSD services in real time.
He emphasized that this bank, which boasts some of the best internet facilities in Africa, struggled to guarantee real-time money transfers for its ten million customers.
Questioning INEC's Capability
Building on this, Omokri posed a rhetorical question: if Obi's bank cannot ensure real-time services for its customer base, how can the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) be expected to deliver real-time election transmissions for over 100 million registered voters in Nigeria? He argued that this inconsistency undermines the demand for real-time result transmission during elections.
The video shared by Omokri has sparked discussions online, with many users engaging in debates over the practicality of real-time electoral processes in the country.
