Presidential Aide Says Peter Obi Cannot Defeat Tinubu in Lagos in 2027
Presidential Aide: Peter Obi Cannot Defeat Tinubu in Lagos 2027

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, has asserted that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), cannot defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State during the 2027 general elections. Dare dismissed suggestions that Obi represents a political threat to the Tinubu administration, emphasizing that the government's performance has solidified its position ahead of the polls.

Dare Dismisses Obi as a Political Threat

Speaking during an interview on the Mic On Podcast on Saturday, June 27, 2028, Dare stated, "This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare for our government. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance." He argued that Tinubu's administration is focused on delivering its mandate through effective policies and programmes aimed at addressing Nigeria's challenges. According to Dare, the government has carefully examined the country's problems and is implementing solutions. "We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country. Decisions are being taken, policies are being unfolded across the country, and we have a scorecard to show," he added.

Criticism of Obi's Communication Style

Dare also criticized Peter Obi's public interventions, describing some of his comments and interviews as lacking clarity and substance. This critique aligns with the administration's narrative that Obi's political influence has waned. The presidential aide's remarks come amid ongoing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, where major candidates include President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.

Youth Leader Predicts APC Victory

In related developments, the youth leader of the APC in Oyo State has projected a sweeping victory for the party in the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, the Tinubu Touch Bearer initiative aims to mobilize women for electoral success, as Nigerians at home and abroad prepare for the upcoming polls.

PDP Chieftain Also Dismisses Obi's Chances

Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also predicted that Peter Obi has no chance in the 2027 presidential election. Sowunmi expressed confidence that President Tinubu will defeat both Atiku Abubakar and Obi. However, Nigerians have reacted sharply to Sowunmi's claims, highlighting the diversity of opinions in the country's political landscape.
