In a significant political and security engagement, Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has personally delivered a message of commendation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
High-Profile Delegation Arrives in Port Harcourt
The visit took place on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt. Ribadu led a powerful presidential team that included the Minister of Works, David Umahi, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, and senior officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Ribadu, speaking on behalf of the President, expressed Tinubu's satisfaction with Governor Fubara's approach to leadership. He specifically highlighted the peaceful atmosphere in Rivers State, describing it as one of the most tranquil in Nigeria. The NSA praised Fubara for his responsible stewardship of the oil-rich state.
Core Mission: Securing Ogoni for Economic Revival
The central reason for the high-stakes visit, as explained by Ribadu, was to consolidate ongoing peace efforts in Ogoniland. This region in the Niger Delta has a long history of environmental agitation and unrest related to oil exploration activities.
Ribadu conveyed that President Tinubu was particularly pleased with the governor's coordination in discussions about the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoni. He stressed a transformative vision, declaring that "Nigeria will no longer be what it used to be", with that change beginning in the Ogoni area.
The President's direct order to Ribadu was to initiate immediate talks between Ogoni communities, the NNPCL, and other critical stakeholders. Tinubu's message to the Ogoni people was one of unity and reconciliation, urging them to close ranks and move forward from past conflicts.
Political Alignment and 2027 Implications
The visit carried substantial political undertones. Governor Fubara, who leads a state traditionally seen as an opposition stronghold, has recently declared support for President Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.
Fubara claimed that approximately 70% support for Tinubu's second term has already been secured across all 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State. This declaration followed his meeting with the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ribadu concluded the federal government's message by extending President Tinubu's appreciation to the people of Ogoni for their support, patience, and understanding during the delicate peace and reconciliation process.
