President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly honoured one of his longstanding political allies, Honourable Ifedayo Abegunde, on the occasion of his birthday.
A Distinguished Career Across Continents
The President's congratulatory message highlighted the remarkable professional path of Abegunde, who is widely known as Abena. His journey began with a solid foundation in Civil Engineering, which he later complemented with advanced studies in architecture.
Abegunde's expertise is not limited to Nigeria. He built a significant part of his career in the United States, where he served as a Systems Engineer for prominent institutions like the State of Maryland and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
From Grassroots Politics to National Service
Upon returning to Nigeria, Abegunde transitioned into public service and politics with notable success. He was elected by the people of the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency in Ondo State to represent them in the House of Representatives for two consecutive terms.
His service to his home state continued when he took on the role of Secretary to the Ondo State Government. Today, he holds a pivotal national position as the Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Tinubu's Personal Tribute
In his statement, President Tinubu personally commended Abegunde's unwavering principles. He noted that the NDDC Executive Director has faced both victories and trials in his political career, all stemming from his steadfast commitment to good governance and the public interest.
"In politics, Abegunde’s dedication to public service and good governance has always been evident," President Tinubu said. "As an associate, he has remained loyal, consistent and steadfast at all times."
The President concluded his felicitations with a prayer for long life and more years of impactful service to the nation for the celebrant. The birthday message was issued on January 9, 2026.
