President Bola Tinubu has announced the nomination of Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North East zone. The president forwarded her name to the Senate for confirmation.
Senate Receives Nomination Letter
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president's letter during plenary on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Akpabio noted that Tinubu stated the nomination complied with the provisions of the NDDC Establishment Act.
Background of the Appointment
According to a report by Daily Trust, the appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of former board member Abdulrazak Namdas. Namdas stepped down on March 30, 2026, to contest the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.
In the letter, President Tinubu expressed confidence that the Senate would promptly review and confirm Marwa's nomination, ensuring the board can continue its mandate of driving development in the Niger Delta region without interruption.
Next Steps
Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for screening and further legislative action. The committee is expected to conduct a thorough review before reporting back to the full chamber for confirmation.
