Tinubu, Otti Meet Over Nnamdi Kanu's Release

President Bola Tinubu has held a crucial meeting with Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, focusing on the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

A Strategic Meeting at the Villa

The high-level discussion took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, December 2. This engagement is seen as a significant step in the push for a political and legal resolution to the long-standing case of the pro-Biafra activist. The meeting underscores the priority the Abia State government places on this matter.

Following the Sokoto Prison Visit

This presidential interface comes just days after Governor Otti personally visited Nnamdi Kanu at the detention facility in Sokoto State, where Kanu is serving a life sentence. The governor was not alone during that visit; he was accompanied by key figures including Kanu's younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials from the Sokoto State Government were also present, indicating a coordinated approach.

The Agreed Strategy for Freedom

Governor Otti had previously announced that his administration was actively pursuing a pre-agreed strategy to secure Kanu's release. Through his media aide, Otti stated, "While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured."

The meeting with President Tinubu is widely believed to be a direct part of executing this strategy. It represents a major move to explore all possible avenues, combining legal processes with high-level political dialogue. The outcome of this meeting could have profound implications for security and political discourse in the South-East region and the nation at large.
