Coalition Demands President Tinubu Sack Defence Minister Matawalle Over Security Concerns
The National Coalition Against Terrorism (NCAT) has issued a strong call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to either dismiss or reassign the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. This demand is based on allegations that the minister lacks the necessary security expertise and has lost public confidence, which the group argues is crucial for effective national security management.

During a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, NCAT Convener Marvin Ibe highlighted that the coalition's stance is influenced by recent reports attributed to U.S. Congresswoman Representative Kimberly Daniels. These reports reportedly recommended the removal or redeployment of Matawalle due to concerns over his performance and public perception. Ibe urged President Tinubu to take decisive action based on what he described as credible external assessments, emphasizing that this is in the best interest of Nigeria's national security.
Ibe stated, "We have carefully observed the ongoing allegations and counter-allegations surrounding the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, particularly concerning his past engagements during his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State." He claimed that public perception of the minister has been negatively impacted by controversies related to alleged dealings with bandits, which could undermine trust in the country's security leadership.

The coalition aligned itself with the position attributed to Daniels, arguing that Nigeria must seriously consider any intelligence or assessments that could strengthen its fight against terrorism.
