Governor Makinde Addresses Impeachment Speculation with Humor

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has publicly responded to circulating rumors about an alleged impeachment plot against him, dismissing the claims with a touch of humor during a recent official event. The speculation, which remains unverified, suggested that former First Lady of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, held a meeting with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, to discuss plans for removing the governor from office.

Makinde's Light-Hearted Remarks on Governance

Speaking on Thursday at the inauguration of key committees aimed at driving the state's long-term tourism development and preparations for the International Tourism Summit 2026, Governor Makinde brushed aside the impeachment talk. "This administration will come to an end in one year and one month. So what will happen next? Well, that is if I am not impeached, then," he said jokingly, downplaying the seriousness of the rumors.

He emphasized that his administration remains steadfastly focused on governance and implementing long-term development initiatives, rather than being distracted by political speculation. "Today, we inaugurated two committees—the Organising Committee for the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026, scheduled to hold from May 12 to 14, 2026, and the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee," Makinde stated, highlighting the practical steps being taken to advance the state's interests.

Committees to Drive Tourism and Long-Term Planning

According to the governor, the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee is specifically designed to provide a comprehensive, long-term framework that will guide investment decisions and outlive successive administrations in Oyo State. This initiative underscores a commitment to sustainable development beyond political cycles.

"As I said in my remarks, this is serious work and will require active participation. My expectation is that members of both committees will give their best to ensure these initiatives benefit the good people of Oyo State," Makinde added, reinforcing the administration's dedication to public service and economic growth through tourism.

The governor's response to the impeachment rumors reflects a broader strategy of maintaining focus on governance priorities, even amid political tensions. By addressing the speculation with humor and redirecting attention to concrete development projects, Makinde aims to reassure stakeholders and the public of his administration's stability and forward-looking agenda.
