Yobe Deputy Governor Details Charitable Initiatives Through Gorbo Foundation
Yobe State Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana has publicly explained his motivations behind commissioning fifty new mosques and sponsoring the marriages of ten female orphans through his personal philanthropic organization, the Gorbo Foundation. The deputy governor made these remarks during a recent event at the Emir of Fune's palace, where one of the newly constructed mosques was officially opened.
Spiritual and Social Upliftment as Core Mission
Gubana emphasized that his charitable actions stem from a deep desire to bring people closer to God while simultaneously addressing critical social needs within vulnerable communities. The Gorbo Foundation specifically focuses on supporting orphans, women, and other marginalized groups through comprehensive educational and social programs.
"We currently have over 1,400 orphans under our care," Gubana revealed. "We train them from primary to secondary school, and some are now in tertiary institutions. Some have graduated and found partners, which is why we supported their marriages."
Personal Gratitude Drives Philanthropic Commitment
The deputy governor described his initiatives as acts of charity and gratitude to God for elevating him from humble beginnings to his current position of influence. He explained that the foundation raised and educated the ten female orphans before supporting their marriages to chosen partners, ensuring they had both educational foundations and stable family beginnings.
Gubana issued a direct appeal to wealthy individuals and political office holders across Nigeria, urging them to follow his example by investing in community initiatives that address both spiritual and physical well-being. He specifically called for increased support for orphan care programs and religious infrastructure development.
Broader Context of Interfaith Charity in Nigeria
This announcement comes amid several notable instances of interfaith charitable construction projects across Nigeria. Recently, Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele commissioned a mosque named in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's mother, while Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated the Adogba Central Mosque in Ibadan as a fulfillment of earlier promises to the Muslim community.
These projects have been praised by religious leaders including the Sultan of Sokoto, who has encouraged other governors to emulate such bridge-building initiatives that promote national unity and interfaith cooperation.
The Gorbo Foundation represents a significant private-sector approach to social welfare, currently providing educational support from primary through tertiary levels for its 1,400 orphan beneficiaries. Gubana's dual focus on spiritual infrastructure through mosque construction and practical support through orphan education and marriage sponsorship demonstrates a holistic approach to community development that he hopes will inspire similar efforts nationwide.
