Bandits Attack NSCDC Checkpoint in Niger State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State has officially reported a brazen assault on one of its security posts by suspected bandits. The violent incident took place in the Borgu Local Government Area, highlighting the persistent security challenges in the region.

Details of the Early Morning Assault

According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, Abubakar Muti, the attack unfolded in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025. The assailants, described as a group of heavily armed bandits, stormed the NSCDC checkpoint situated along the Wawa–Babanla Road between 12:28 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.

The bandits opened fire on the officers who were on duty at the location. Demonstrating tactical discipline, the NSCDC personnel managed to withdraw from the area safely. No casualties were recorded among the corps members during the exchange.

Losses and Strategic Location of the Checkpoint

The attackers, whose exact number remains undetermined, did not leave empty-handed. They reportedly seized the personal belongings of the officers and made away with one G3 rifle belonging to the security agency. Furthermore, they vandalized an operational Hilux vehicle by deflating its tyres.

The targeted checkpoint holds a strategic position. It is located about three kilometres from Wawa town and is situated approximately nine kilometres from the 221 Armoured Brigade Barracks. This proximity to a major military installation underscores the audacity of the attack.

Response and Reassurance to Residents

In the aftermath of the incident, the Niger State Command of the NSCDC has initiated a collaborative response. Spokesman Muti confirmed that the corps is now working with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and restore full security in the affected area.

The command has also moved to reassure residents of Niger State. It reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, despite this setback. The joint operation aims to apprehend the bandits and prevent future attacks on security infrastructure and communities.
