Gunmen Ambush and Kill 300-Level University Student in Plateau Village Attack
In a tragic incident on Monday night, gunmen ambushed and killed a 300-level university student in Dum Village, located in the Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State. The armed attackers positioned themselves at the village entrance and opened fire on two young men, resulting in the death of one while the other managed to escape.
Victim Identified as Only Child of His Mother
The victim has been identified as Badung Sunday Alamba, a 29-year-old student at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State. According to community sources, Alamba was the only child of his mother, adding to the profound grief of the loss. His companion, Dachomo Habila, narrowly escaped the attack despite the gunmen's attempts to kill him.
Community and Association Condemn the Attack
Mr. Dung Elisha, a community member, described the incident as deeply tragic, emphasizing the personal devastation for the family. Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the attack and condemned it as a premeditated, calculated, and barbaric assault on innocent civilians. He alleged that the attackers deliberately targeted Berom communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Jos South Local Government Areas.
Calls for Investigation and Enhanced Security
Tengwong called for a thorough investigation into the killing and urged security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors without delay. He also appealed for strengthened surveillance and improved protection for vulnerable communities that have repeatedly come under attack. Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, highlighting ongoing challenges in communication and response.
