A 14-year-old girl kidnapped in Kaduna State has regained her freedom after her parents paid a N5 million ransom and provided four motorcycles to her captors. The minor, who was abducted along with her elder sister three months ago, was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual assault throughout her time in captivity.
Journalist reveals details of abduction and release
Reuben Buhari, a journalist and former media aide to late Kaduna State Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 22, 2026. According to Buhari, the victim was kidnapped alongside her elder sister, and the two were forced to trek for three days before reaching the bandits' camp.
Buhari alleged that the 14-year-old was r@ped from the very first day she arrived at the camp. The abuse continued throughout her three-month ordeal until her parents met the captors' demands.
Ransom payment and victim's condition
The journalist stated that the girl was released after her parents paid N5 million and supplied four motorcycles to the bandits. He noted that she is now back home and recuperating, with medical tests showing no lasting physical effects from the ordeal.
In his Facebook post, Buhari wrote: "She is just 14 years old. She was kidnapped with her elder sister, and they trekked for 3 days before getting to the camp. She was r@ped from the day she got there and released 3 months later when her parents paid N5 million and 4 motorcycles. She is now back, recuperating and medical tests showed no physical lasting effect. Pray for her."
Ongoing security concerns in Kaduna
The incident highlights the continuing threat of kidnapping and banditry in Kaduna State, where criminal gangs frequently target vulnerable communities and demand hefty ransoms. The case also underscores the psychological and emotional trauma endured by victims, particularly minors, during prolonged captivity.
As the young girl begins her recovery, her family and community are left to grapple with the aftermath of the harrowing experience. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or the ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the region.
