Nigerian Military Forces Strike Major Blow Against Banditry in Zamfara State
In a significant victory against terrorism, Nigerian troops have eliminated multiple bandits during a targeted operation in Zamfara State. The military action resulted in the death of Kachalla Iliya Sarki, identified as the biological son of notorious bandit leader Ado Alero, along with numerous other terrorists.
Operation Details and Military Confirmation
The raid was conducted by Operation Fansan Yanma troops on Saturday, April 4, 2026, specifically targeting Ado Alero's camp located in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Military spokesperson Captain David Adewusi confirmed the operation took place and resulted in substantial casualties among the bandit forces.
"There was a major attack on Alero's camp last Saturday in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State, which resulted in the death of several bandits," Adewusi stated during a telephone interview on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
The military spokesperson explained that while he couldn't provide exact casualty figures immediately, he confirmed that many terrorists were neutralized during the assault. "I cannot confirm the exact number of bandits neutralised during the operation at the moment, but I can assure you that many of them were killed during the attack. We are still assessing the situation and will make the details public soon," Adewusi added.
Casualty Figures and Key Targets
According to information from the Nigerian Armed Forces and Military News Facebook page, at least 65 terrorists were neutralized during the comprehensive operation. Among the key figures eliminated were top lieutenants identified as Dogo Sule and Iliya Mai Rasha, both significant operatives within the bandit network.
The operation represents a substantial setback for terrorist activities in the region, particularly targeting the leadership structure of one of the most notorious bandit groups operating in northwestern Nigeria.
Broader Security Context and Additional Operations
This successful operation in Zamfara State occurs within the context of broader military actions against terrorism across multiple Nigerian states. Recent coordinated operations have yielded significant results:
- Troops killed 18 terrorists and arrested 37 suspects while rescuing nine kidnapped victims across several states
- Military forces recovered substantial weaponry including AK-47 rifles, mortar bombs, RPG bombs, and ammunition
- Soldiers arrested a suspected kidnapper during operations in Borno and Yobe states
- Security forces repelled attacks and neutralized gunmen while disrupting kidnapping and criminal networks in Cross River, Edo, Benue, Sokoto, Kaduna, Delta, and Zamfara states
In a separate incident, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace killed three terrorists and arrested two suspects in Jos, Plateau State. The Nigerian Army confirmed that two impostors disguised as security operatives were apprehended during violence in Dutse Uku, demonstrating the military's vigilance against deception tactics employed by terrorist elements.
The successful operation against Ado Alero's camp comes amid ongoing allegations of complicity in security matters in north-central states, with the military continuing to demonstrate its commitment to combating terrorism through targeted, intelligence-driven operations.
