In a disturbing escalation of xenophobic sentiment, Black South Africans have targeted children of Black immigrants from other African countries, blocking them from attending school. The incidents occurred early in the morning as groups of South Africans gathered at schools to prevent these children from entering classes.
Children Removed from Classrooms
Reports indicate that the children were forcibly removed from their classrooms during school hours, and their parents were called to pick them up. A video circulating on social media captures a South African man shouting at the children and their parents: "Go back to your bloody country, you useless ones. You can't fight your own government, so you come to South Africa. Bastards."
Fear and Intimidation
Some children were visibly frightened by the threatening presence of the South Africans. Parents had to reassure their terrified kids amidst the hostile atmosphere. The protests are part of ongoing anti-immigration demonstrations and xenophobic attacks that have been sweeping across parts of South Africa.
Police Response
Police arrived at the scene to prevent violence but did not stop the children from being expelled from the school. This has raised concerns about the protection of immigrant rights and the safety of foreign nationals in the country.
The incident highlights the deep-seated xenophobia that continues to plague South Africa, with immigrants from other African nations often facing hostility and discrimination. Advocacy groups have condemned the actions and called for stronger measures to protect vulnerable communities.
