Nigerian Cleric Condemns Arrest of Evangelist Over Herdsmen Attack Alarm
Cleric Condemns Arrest of Evangelist in Nasarawa

A prominent Nigerian religious leader has strongly criticized security authorities in Nasarawa State for detaining a fellow cleric who raised alarm about an alleged attack on a Christian gathering.

Evangelist's Viral Video Sparks Outrage

Apostle Michael Olowookere has publicly called out the Nasarawa State Police Command for apprehending Evangelist Daniel Ukpo, who gained attention on social media two days ago after sharing a video documenting what he described as an invasion by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The incident occurred at Agboda village in Nasarawa where a crusade was scheduled to take place. Ukpo's video showed Christian faithful running in different directions as he narrated the unfolding situation. In his emotional account, the evangelist stated: "We came in for a crusade here and as I'm talking to you, some herdsmen invaded the place. You can see the youths. Everywhere, there is unrest."

Christian Leader Accuses Government of Bias

The video quickly circulated across various social media platforms, drawing widespread condemnation from Nigerians toward the alleged invaders. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Apostle Olowookere accused the government of specifically targeting Christians while failing to pursue bandits who openly boast about carrying out attacks against Nigerian citizens.

The religious leader has mobilized Christians across the country to demand the immediate release of Evangelist Ukpo, who according to social media reports, has been in police custody for over twelve hours without formal charges.

Police Remain Silent on Development

As of the latest developments, the Nasarawa State Police Command has maintained complete silence regarding the arrest of Evangelist Ukpo and has not issued any official statement explaining the reasons behind his detention.

This incident has sparked renewed concerns about religious freedom and the treatment of individuals who report security threats in various communities across Nigeria. Many are questioning why the evangelist faced arrest instead of receiving protection after documenting what appeared to be a security breach during a religious event.
