The Directorate General of Documentation and Immigration (DGDI) of Gabon has updated its bilateral visa exemption guidelines, revealing that only three African countries are currently allowed to enter the Central African nation visa-free using ordinary passports. Several other African states enjoy exemptions, but these are strictly limited to diplomatic and service passport holders.
Three African Nations Granted Full Visa-Free Access
According to details retrieved from the official Gabon e-Visa portal managed by the DGDI, citizens of Mauritius, Morocco, and South Africa can travel to Gabon for tourism, transit, or short-term business without applying for an e-Visa or visiting an embassy. The exemption applies to holders of ordinary, diplomatic, and service passports from these countries.
African Countries With Conditional Visa-Free Entry
Gabon has bilateral agreements with several other African nations, but the visa waiver is restricted to individuals holding diplomatic or service (official) passports. Ordinary passport holders from these countries are not included. The list includes: Benin, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Egypt, Guinea, Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire), Mali, Senegal, and Tunisia.
For non-African nations, Germany and Turkey also enjoy visa exemptions, but strictly for diplomatic passport holders.
This update comes as African nations continue to review their immigration and border control policies. The information was published by Legit.ng, citing the Gabon e-Visa portal.
