The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) has significantly escalated its efforts to combat illegal revenue collection across the state, leading to the arrest and prosecution of multiple suspects. They were apprehended for allegedly extorting traders and commercial operators at Mgbuka Obosi and Umusiome Junction in Nkpor. Preliminary investigations revealed that Aniukwu acted under the directive of Anthony Onyekwelu, who reportedly imposed a daily remittance target on the illegal activities.
The suspects were promptly arraigned before a magistrate court, where they were remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of their case. The court granted bail under stringent conditions, including a N100,000 bail bond, a N300,000 fine, and the requirement of a verified Level 17 civil servant as surety. The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2026, for further hearing, underscoring the judicial process's thoroughness.
