The Anambra State Police Command has successfully arrested three suspected kidnappers who lured their victim with the promise of a job before abducting him. The suspects, identified as Chidalu Obi (25), Chichebem Ojenigbo (26), and Chikannechukwu Eze (20), allegedly deceived the victim, an electrician, into meeting them at a location in Umuezeala Awuda, where they blindfolded him at gunpoint and held him captive.
Arrest and Rescue Operation
The police, in collaboration with the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, carried out a night operation in a bush at Umuezeala Awuda village, Nnobi, in Idemili North Local Government Area. The operation led to the arrest of the three armed suspects and the rescue of the kidnapped victim. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the team also recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (N469,000) from the suspects.
Confession and Investigation
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lured the victim under the pretext of offering him a job. Upon arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush, where he was held captive. The suspects have confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting the ransom, which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to Chidalu Obi.
Ikenga reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to safeguarding lives and property. He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to help combat crime in the state.
