Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Okada Rider in Ogun State
The Ogun State Police Command has taken into custody a 27-year-old man, Chidi Ebere, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist, commonly referred to as an Okada rider, in Igbesa, Ogun State. This incident has drawn significant attention to violent crimes in the region.
Details of the Attack
The suspect reportedly attacked the victim, identified as 36-year-old Sunday Ogbu, at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. According to the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, Ebere boarded Ogbu's motorcycle and then assaulted him with a knife in an attempt to seize the vehicle, leading to a violent struggle.
Babaseyi stated that a witness at the scene raised an alarm, which prompted police officers to rush to the location and apprehend the suspect. The victim was subsequently rescued and taken to a hospital for medical attention, but he was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
Police Investigation and Response
Exhibits recovered from the suspect included the knife used in the attack and the motorcycle involved. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a thorough investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, strongly condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be served. He urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining security.
Ojajuni also encouraged residents to utilize the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines for reporting security concerns, highlighting the command's commitment to swift action in such cases.
