The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic deaths of a couple and their four-year-old son in Ijebu-Igbo. The lifeless bodies of the woman, her son, and a man known as Ope, also called “Shanko,” were discovered inside a residence on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, plunging the community into shock and grief.
Discovery of the Bodies
According to sources at the scene, the woman and the man were found dead inside the toilet, while the woman’s son was discovered lifeless in one of the rooms within the house. Initial observations indicated signs of possible disturbance before the incident, as parts of the toilet and other household items were found damaged.
Possible Poisoning
Unconfirmed reports circulating in the community suggest that poisoning may have been involved, but authorities have yet to officially establish or announce the cause of death. The police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette, stating that an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances that led to the deaths.
“The Ogun State Police Command is investigating the tragic death of a couple and their four-year-old child discovered in their residence at Oke-Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, on June 10, 2026,” Babaseyi said. “Investigation is ongoing while the bodies have been deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu-Igbo.”
The community remains in mourning as they await further details from the police investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the inquiry.
