The management of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi has confirmed the tragic death of a 300-level Biochemistry student, Zaharadeen Nuhu, who was killed in an attack by suspected thieves at his off-campus residence.
Details of the Attack
The incident occurred at a private hostel in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State. According to the university’s Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, the deceased sustained severe machete injuries during the attack by a group of suspected hoodlums.
Victim's Background
Zaharadeen Nuhu hailed from Niger State and was a 300-level student in the Department of Biochemistry. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday, June 12, 2026.
Prof. Magawata expressed the university's grief in a circular released on Thursday, stating: "It is with a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Allah that the university management announces the death of our dear student, Zaharadeen Nuhu."
Police Investigation and Security Measures
The university management has contacted the Nigeria Police Force, Kalgo Division, and investigations into the incident have commenced. Additionally, security patrols have been intensified in Kalgo and other off-campus areas where students reside to prevent further attacks.
