Suspected kidnappers have returned the lifeless body of a former federal lawmaker, Abba Anas Adamu, after allegedly collecting N50 million in ransom from his family. Adamu, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, was abducted alongside his associate, Ali Tukur Gantsa, several weeks ago along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Ransom Negotiations and Death
A family source revealed that the abductors initially demanded N100 million for the release of both men, but negotiations reduced the ransom to N50 million. Despite assurances that Adamu would be released alive, the kidnappers later dumped his body on the outskirts of a town.
According to the source, the late politician suffered from underlying health conditions that worsened during captivity due to lack of access to medication. Efforts by Gantsa to comfort and assist him during the ordeal proved futile as his condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to his death.
Concealment of Death
The abductors initially concealed Adamu's death before later hinting at it in a communication with the family. The incident has plunged members of the ADC in Jigawa State and political associates of the deceased into mourning, with many describing him as a respected and compassionate politician.
No official statement had been issued by the Jigawa chapter of the ADC at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, Gantsa was said to be accompanying the remains of the deceased to Kano for burial arrangements.
