Stephee Exposes WhatsApp Chat With IT Supervisor
A Nigerian lady identified as Stephee on X has shared screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation with her industrial training (IT) supervisor, accusing him of persistent harassment. In her post, Stephee explained that she deliberately acted oblivious throughout the internship to avoid jeopardizing her placement, but the supervisor continued his advances. The chat reveals the older man pressing for her time despite knowing she had a boyfriend, while she firmly told him she viewed him as an elder brother or uncle.
Supervisor's Advances Intensify After Return
According to Stephee, the supervisor traveled for three months, and she assumed the issue had passed. However, he returned two days before her internship concluded and harassed her again. The screenshots show the supervisor sending lengthy messages confessing his feelings, inviting her to a village location, and suggesting that having a boyfriend should not prevent them from spending time together. He described 'having fun' as gisting and drinking, and admitted that no matter how much he tried to suppress his feelings, they kept surfacing. He also made clear he was 'fully available' if her boyfriend was not treating her well.
Stephee's Firm but Measured Response
Stephee replied directly, telling him she had been acting oblivious because she assumed his behavior was playful, but now saw he was serious. She explained that she viewed him as an elder brother or uncle due to their age gap, that she was still young, and that she was already in a relationship. She thanked him for his assistance during the internship while making it plain she could not reciprocate beyond a cordial working relationship.
Nigerians React to the Experience
The post drew swift responses from Nigerians who empathized with Stephee's position. Ifediche commented, 'I’m so sorry. The fact that you couldn’t report this speaks volume of how prejudiced the system is against women.' Tife added, 'I'm so sorry. I hate the fact that you had to be this nice just so he wouldn't hurt you by not giving you what is rightfully yours. I really wonder when these men will stop doing this fr.' Another user, Platonic sugar, remarked, 'Typical married man talk, “fun”, they don’t care if you have a boyfriend lol, you’re even nice the way you’re talking to them.'
Broader Context of Workplace Harassment
This incident highlights the challenges many young women face during internships, where power imbalances make it difficult to report harassment. A previous report by Legit.ng noted a similar case where a Nigerian lady shared a 'disturbing' WhatsApp conversation with her boss who slid into her DMs, asking for her house address to send flowers. Such cases underscore the need for better protections and reporting mechanisms in workplaces.
