A horrific case of domestic violence has culminated in a double tragedy in Ogun State, leaving a community in shock. A middle-aged man, Mr. Ayoola Ayanwale, is suspected of taking his own life merely hours after allegedly murdering his wife, Ayobami.
A Fatal Argument Leads to Tragedy
The incident unfolded on Thursday, January 8, within the couple's apartment at the River Valley Estate. Reports indicate a heated argument escalated violently, leading Ayoola Ayanwale to allegedly stab his wife, a mother of three, multiple times.
Disturbed neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing loud noises, only to discover Ayobami with severe stab wounds lying in a pool of blood. They immediately mobilized and rushed her to a nearby hospital.
"While on their way, she demanded for water as well as asked what her offence was for her husband to inflict such an injury on her," one neighbor recounted. Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the medical facility. Doctors noted the fatal stabs were close to her lungs, critically affecting her breathing.
Husband's Grim Aftermath and Final Act
In a chilling turn, neighbors reported that after the attack, the accused husband returned to the home to clean up traces of blood. The brutality of the crime was further detailed by the victim's older brother, Muritala Shogbade, who stated his sister was stabbed five times on her breast, back, and chest, an act witnessed by the couple's three children.
The story took another grim turn less than 12 hours later. On Friday, January 9, Ayoola Ayanwale was found gasping for breath in an open field in the Sotubo area of Ogun State. He was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Items recovered at the scene where he was found included:
- A bottle containing a suspected liquid substance
- Two mobile phones
- A voter’s card
- An ATM card
Police Investigation and Community in Mourning
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the distressing sequence of events. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the command would soon issue an official statement regarding the incident.
