Married Man Found Dead at Girlfriend's House After Lying About Work
A 50-year-old married man from Zambia has tragically passed away at his girlfriend's residence after deceiving his wife about his whereabouts. The incident occurred in the Sinda District of Eastern Province on Sunday, April 12, 2026, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police Confirm Details of the Incident
Eastern Province police commanding officer, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday. He stated that Julius Mwale left his home on Saturday around 07:00 hours, informing his wife, Tasila Tembo, that he was heading to a farm to do some piecework with his friend, Gezani Banda. However, instead of going to work, Mwale proceeded to his girlfriend's house.
According to Banda's report to the police, Mwale was discovered deceased in a sitting position at his girlfriend Anna's house around 02:00 in the morning. The police officer provided further details, explaining that at approximately 18:00 hours, Mwale and Banda went to Anna's residence to drink locally brewed beer known as Kachasu. Two other individuals joined them, and they first consumed nshima before purchasing four 175 ml bottles of Kachasu beer and beginning to drink.
Events Leading Up to the Tragedy
Police Chief Mweemba noted that before Mwale and Banda consumed the alcohol they had bought, Anna reportedly gave "score beer" to Banda, which he drank alone. After the drinking session, Mwale's friends departed, but he remained behind, telling them he needed to sleep over at Anna's house to help guard her maize harvest.
During police interviews, Anna recounted that she heard a loud snore around 02:00 hours in the morning. When she attempted to wake Mwale, he was unresponsive. She then went to alert the village headman, who subsequently informed Mwale's relatives and reported the incident to the police. Officers visited the scene and confirmed finding the deceased in a sitting position.
Ongoing Investigation and Postmortem
The body of Julius Mwale has been transported and deposited into the St. Francis Hospital Mortuary. Authorities are awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
