Nigerian Man Charged with Murder of 21-Year-Old Film Student in London
A Nigerian man, Oluwadamilola Ogunyankinnu, has been formally charged with the murder of a 21-year-old film student, Finbar Sullivan, in the United Kingdom. The tragic incident occurred in Primrose Hill, a popular north London beauty spot, where Sullivan was fatally stabbed near the viewing point on Tuesday.
Details of the Arrest and Charges
The Metropolitan Police reported that Ogunyankinnu, aged 27 and residing on Southbury Road in Enfield, was arrested on Friday, April 10. He was subsequently charged with murder on Sunday, April 12, and is scheduled to appear at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Monday. In a related development, a 25-year-old man who had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released with no further action, as the investigation remains ongoing.
Victim's Background and Family's Grief
Finbar Sullivan was a promising film student at the London Screen Academy. His father, Chris Sullivan, 65, expressed profound sorrow in an interview with BBC London, revealing that he had lost his only son, affectionately known as Fin to friends and family. "All of his friends said he was the light, the leader. His friends' parents loved him. This is why it's so tragic," he stated, highlighting the deep impact of the loss on the community.
Additional Incident and Police Response
In a separate but related incident, another man in his 20s was discovered with stab injuries on nearby Regent's Park Road on the same Tuesday. He was promptly taken to a hospital, where medical professionals assessed his injuries as not life-threatening or life-changing. The Metropolitan Police continue to investigate both cases, urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to ensure justice is served.
