The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Bauchi State Command has successfully intercepted a truck loaded with vandalized railway infrastructure and arrested five individuals connected to the crime. This operation represents a significant blow against the destruction of critical national assets in the region.

Intelligence-Led Operation Uncovers Major Vandalism

According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf, on Friday, January 23, 2026, the interception was the result of actionable intelligence. On January 12, 2026, at approximately 0300 hours, NSCDC operatives on patrol along the Miri–Jos Road, specifically around Gital town in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, stopped a Dangote truck with registration number MDB 360 XA.

The truck was discovered to be transporting 80 pieces of vandalized railway tracks and 5 pieces of slippers, cleverly concealed under bags of chicken feed as a disguise. The vehicle was reportedly heading towards the Eastern part of Nigeria, indicating a planned illicit transfer of the stolen materials.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

Five suspects have been taken into custody in connection with this incident. The arrested individuals are:

  • Adam Kolo, male, 42 years, from Borno State
  • Samuel Musa, male, 44 years, from Yobe State
  • Solomon Jankaro, male, 40 years, from Niger State
  • Emmanuel Collins, male, 26 years, from Enugu State
  • Sunday David, male, 20 years, from Enugu State

Investigations have identified Mr. John as the alleged owner and mastermind behind the intercepted railway tracks, while Auwal, the truck driver, remains at large. Authorities have emphasized that efforts are intensifying to apprehend these individuals and bring them to justice.

Recovered Exhibits and Additional Arrest

The command has secured several exhibits from the operation, including:

  1. 80 pieces of vandalized railway track
  2. 5 pieces of slippers
  3. Bags of chicken feed used for concealment
  4. One long vehicle truck (the intercepted Dangote truck)
  5. A Lexus RX 330 with registration number BWR 60 DN

In a related development, the NSCDC also arrested Nura Abdullahi from the Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi on January 14, 2026, around 0200 hours, for motorcycle theft. During preliminary investigations, Abdullahi confessed to purchasing stolen motorcycles from two suspects based in Bauchi State and admitted to selling eight motorcycles to Mr. Abdul Abdullahi Magaji in Gindiri, Mangu LGA, Plateau State. The estimated value of these motorcycles is about N2,020,000 (two million Naira). Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of this syndicate and recover the stolen exhibits.

Commandant's Statement and Public Appeal

The State Commandant of the NSCDC Bauchi State Command, Commandant Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde, addressed the press and commended his personnel for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding national infrastructure. He reiterated the command's resolve to eliminate vandals and other criminal elements from the state.

Oyerinde issued a stern warning to perpetrators, urging them to desist from such acts or face legal consequences if arrested. He also implored the residents of Bauchi State, particularly those living near critical infrastructure, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the NSCDC or other security agencies promptly.
